EducationJust finished my PhD Microbiology/Immunology @ UMich Med. Graduated w/honors BA in Biochemistry from Earlham College in 2010.
ExperienceHi! My name is Kaitlin and I'm a biologist with a strong chemistry background. I've tutored and TA-ed quite a bit, with my most recent success being tutoring medical students in immunology and pathology.
I really like to teach, and I find that students and teachers learn better from each other in one-on-one settings. I like taking a wide variety of approaches to understanding--and remembering-- important material. Plus, I love science and am happy to share my passion with whoever wants to listen!
As far as test scores go, I scored very well on AP English/Gov/Env Sci/Econ in high school, and did well on the ACT and GRE. I now mostly practice research science and my GPA at UMich Med is a 9.0/8.0 (A+)
I've taken so many classes over the years, and am really good at basically all of the sciences. I'm also a hobby programmer-- which is really fun to learn!
HobbiesI love science, but I also love to run, go to concerts, hang out with friends and play cards. I'm originally from Holland, Michigan, so I love the beach, too. I'm involved with student government on campus as well and believe in good academic citizenship and integrity.

Kaitlin was my tutor for an entire summer semester and she did an outstanding job helping me with immunology. She would pre-read my course materials before each of our meeting and was very flexible to accommodate my busy schedule. She was more than just a tutor that is only simply willing to answer questions. She was willing to look over my course materials and teach me key concepts that stood out and was very in depth on helping me understand the material, and even used her own textbooks to refer to diagrams and pictures to explain tougher concepts. I've had experience with multiple tutors throughout my lifetime, and what made her stood out to me for me to hire her was the fact she's one of the few tutors I've met that genuinely cared about me learning the material, also making adjustments to the way she teaches to best accommodate the way I learn best. By the end of my course, I had no problem getting a very high grade and I also appreciated immunology more as at the very beginning before I met her, I hated this subject. I highly recommend to everyone as I believe you will see improvement with her.
