Jonathan G.
Private tutor in Ann Arbor, MI
Education
I majored in Mathematics at James Madison University (JMU) and graduated with a 4.0 in May 2017. I am currently a PhD student in Mathematics at the University of Michigan.
Experience
I was a tutor at JMU my junior and senior year, and I absolutely loved it. I helped people with Algebra, Geometry, Calculus, and even some higher level mathematics. My sole motivation in studying mathematics has always been the fact that it is so interesting. My style of tutoring is to give the tutee that feeling as well! Outside of tutoring, I was one of seven students who created a class at JMU taught by us students. Each class, we would show the students a topic of mathematics that we found particularly beautiful. From this, I have gained a lot of experience in conveying important information in multiple ways, so that every student could see and understand what was going on. It is my strong belief that mathematics isn't about the "how", it's about the "why". And once you really understand why things are done the way they are, you'll never have to memorize how to do them!
