Experience

Tutoring Experience: 1) Academic Tutor: Beginning September 2013, I began tutoring a variety of subjects including Organic Chemistry, General Chemistry, and Biochemistry for undergraduates at the University of Michigan. For the students I work with consistently, I see drastic improvements in both understanding and test/homework scores. 2) MCAT Instructor and Teacher: I have been teaching and tutoring MCAT Organic and General Chemistry since January 2014. I have prepared lesson plans for 2.5 hour lessons as well as met with students individually to clarify confusing concepts 3) Undergraduate Student Instructor: From September 2011 to December 2012, I was an Undergraduate Student Instructor for a variety of undergraduate lab courses including General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry I and Organic Chemistry II. In this role, I was responsible for teaching classes of 20-30 undergraduates, grading student exams, and holding office hours to help students better understand a variety of topics. I received an overall rating of 4.75/5.00 for instructor quality over 5 semesters. 4) Study Group Facilitator: From September 2011 to April 2014, I was a study group facilitator for a variety of undergraduate science classes including Physics I, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry I, and Organic Chemistry II. As a study group facilitator, I prepared worksheets for groups of 10-20 students and created activities to encourage group learning and participation. Throughout my time as a facilitator I received an overall rating of 4.8/5.00 for overall effectiveness as an instructor. Why I Love Tutoring: I have a belief that many of the students I work with are smart and VERY smart at that. The main issue that many of the students I have worked with in the past face is a lack of one-on-one attention in their learning. I love being able to provide the much needed one-on-one learning environment that many students need to truly learn and understand a subject. I have seen significant improvement not only in understanding but also in test scores in the students I have worked with in the past. There is nothing more rewarding than hearing back from my past students about the success they have had after our tutoring sessions.
