Kate V.
Private tutor in Ann Arbor, MI
Education
I graduated in 2011 from Northern Illinois University with my Bachelor's degree in geology. Currently, I am working on finishing my Master's degree in geophysics at the University of Michigan. In June of 2016, I am planning to go back to get my Master's of Art in Education and certification so that I can teach secondary education in science and mathematics. Between my Bachelor's and Master's degree I've taken a lot of earth science and mathematics courses (trigonometry, linear algebra, differential equations, the calculus sequence). I have a 3.95 GPA at Michigan right now, and graduated with a 3.9 from my Bachelor's.
Experience
I have a bit of tutoring experience at a community college in Illinois, Waubonsee Community College. I tutored mostly math for a couple of years there. I also have experience teaching intro level geology courses at University of Michigan as a graduate student instructor. I love teaching and tutoring. I think it's a shame that so many of our students feel left behind by math. I truly feel that anyone can learn it with a bit of hard work and patient, helpful instructors.

Hobbies
On a low key weekend I enjoy reading, swimming, knitting, as well as other crafty things like candle making. I read anything from fantasy to history to science. I like to mix it up. Whenever I get a free weekend I love to go camping and hiking. I spent a week this past May hiking through the Smokey Mountains in North Carolina and Tennessee. It was such beautiful scenery! On a hot day in Ann Arbor, I love taking a Kayak down the Huron River as well!
