EducationI graduated from Washington University in St. Louis in 2010 with a BA in Biology and was accepted into the Phi Beta Kappa Academic Honor Society in my junior year. I then completed my graduate studies at Columbia University in NY, earning an MD at the Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons and an MBA from Columbia Business School in 2015.
ExperienceI began my tutoring career 10 years ago by helping younger students succeed in mathematics and science courses. Over the years, I have explored and experienced the wonderful minds of countless students, each with unique strengths and weaknesses, which has provided me with the opportunity to develop a tailored approach to learning. I have tutored students in a broad array of subjects ranging from basic science at the middle school, high school, university, and graduate school levels, to clinical medical sciences. In addition, I have extensive experience in teaching the MCAT and USMLE curricula.
eaching methods will be specific to the student and subject of interest. However, I believe it is critical to spend in-session time not just on review of material but on the application of the material to question based practice. To this end, I tend to take an approach to teaching that emphasizes examples and practice questions. This helps students both retain information and better prepares them to assimilate new knowledge and answer new questions in the future.
Using MCAT as an example, I would start by performing an in-depth analysis of the students strengths and weaknesses in both knowledge and question analysis. After choosing the optimal reading and question resources, I would create a specific and custom schedule around which our tutoring sessions would revolve. Tutoring lessons would use questions and examples as a springboard to interactive discussion as opposed to strict lecturing in most cases, depending on the needs of the student. This structure is effective for a number of reasons-the organization of our study plan will focus on layering experience through examples and questioning on top of a strong foundation and knowledge base. Interactive sessions ensure that I can keep track of progress and truly determine whether the current regimen is maximally effective.
HobbiesI am passionate about health. Trained in the art and science of modern medicine, I seek to drive change by facilitating innovation in research, education, medical technology, and healthcare delivery. I am extremely active, and participate in a number of competitive sports like running, spinning, weight lifting, and tennis. I also have a deep passion for music and musical performance and have studied jazz piano since age 4.
