Experience

***MCAT Tutoring Results and Accolades*** I was a top-five nationally-ranked MCAT tutor at one of the most popular MCAT tutoring companies in the US from 2012-2014, and I was one of the five tutors selected to train for the new 2015 MCAT at the company prior to branching out on my own. Now, I am better able to fully integrate their MCAT and application process for my students. I have tutored over 1000 MCAT students 1-1. On the new MCAT, my students avg a 17pt increase including a 4pt CARS increase. Recent update: In the past year I have had students score 525, 522, 522 521, 518, 515, 510, 518, 515, 516, 517, 516, 517 (multiple students hit 518, 515, 517). I have had many other's hit 510+. Each of my app students has had at least five interviews with one having as many as 12 interviews and multiple acceptances by November (she did the MCAT with me and earned a 512 the year prior, and we wrote her app during the year and applied early in the summer). I had four students interview at University of MIchigan Every student that has followed my exact recommendations this year has hit their minimum goal score. Many of my students have gone from below 500 on official tests to 510+ and a handful from below 490 to 510+ including a recent student who went from a 482 to a 511 and a 490 to a 520! Students usually come to me with around 496-500 or 485s. In both cases, my goal is to get them up at least 15 points, and ideally closer to 20-25 point improvements **MCAT Tutoring Process** I am very invested in my students, and I do everything I can to help them succeed. I take my commitment to you very seriously. I place a strong emphasis on fit as I want to be sure that I am the right person for you, and therefore offer every student a no-risk intro session. I make an individualized schedule for each student. Everything is tailored to identify a student's detrimental habits, while meticulously building up beneficial habits. I emphasize teaching students how to understand the content material. I also deeply believe the most valuable skills for the MCAT are critical thinking and reading skills as well as the ability to manage anxiety and pressures of the MCAT. I am excellent at developing these skills in students. I am capable of working with you every step of the way through meeting frequently, but I can also get you quickly updated with the best ways to learn and approach the MCAT and then meet less frequently to save costs. This can often be determined in the initial no- risk session. I am experienced working with students both online and in person and have a variety of tools we can use to facilitate a better learning environment. Ultimately, I will do what I need to best accommodate my students. I am driven to help my students succeed because I know how difficult it can be to deal with anxiety and stress. I struggled with that while I was in college, and I developed some bad habits that made it more difficult every year. Although I took the MCAT then and did well (90+ percentile, old MCAT), it drained me in the process and felt I underperformed. The whole premed process left me burnt out and unhappy. I spent years recognizing what I did wrong and how to improve it, and I am very motivated to pass that knowledge on to others so they do not need to feel the same struggles I went through. **Application Help** I also help plan and edit MD and DO applications, and I have helped students interview and matriculate into schools across the country including Columbia, NYU, Michigan, Harvard among others. Every student that I have collaborated with (40+) has interviewed at multiple US medical schools. Academic Help (Pchem, Physics, Biochem, Orgo, Etc) In the last two years, I have helped numerous students go from B, C grades to As even in classes that I do not teach. Due to my ability to quickly identify weaknesses in students and knowledge of best learning practices, I am able to quickly show a student what detrimental habits they have and replace them with beneficial ones. Of course, some classes also require content work, which I can also provide, but you will be surprised how much easier classes become when you are aware of the best ways to learn and get out of your own way!
